MRP for Shopify.
Without implementing a new inventory system.

Dream MRP reads the product and availability data from your Shopify store, calculates your requirements and creates purchase and work orders.

Shopify on its own is enough. Orders and products are only read; when you complete a work order the finished goods are added to your Shopify on-hand quantity. No new inventory system to implement, and you can add Xero or QuickBooks later for component-level stock.

Dream MRP is on the Shopify App Store. Even if you start from the Dream MRP sign-up page, you will be sent to the App Store listing to connect your store.

The concept

Purchasing and production
from your Shopify data.

For e-commerce resellers, Shopify maintains real-time availability of each of your products. Dream MRP gets availability from your store, optionally adds in per-product minimum stock or sales forecasts, and creates either planned or firm purchase orders.

For manufacturers, Dream MRP will create work orders. If you don't have an accounts system to monitor component inventory, then Dream MRP shows your total demand, like the recipe of a cake, and you finalise the purchasing yourself. Shopify on its own is enough at product level; adding Xero or QuickBooks allows you to have inventory control on components.

Your raw material and sub assembly processes can be completely automated.

Setup requirements

Two things
Shopify needs.

Before Dream MRP can sync a product, it needs to be able to identify and track it unambiguously. Two settings in Shopify make that possible — and both must be in place for a variant to be included in your MRP plan.

Inventory Tracked: On

Each product variant must have Inventory tracked enabled in Shopify. This tells Dream MRP that Shopify is the authoritative source of stock on hand for that variant. Untracked variants are skipped.

SKU Set

Each variant must have an SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) set. Dream MRP uses the SKU as the match key to link a Shopify product to the corresponding item in your MRP plan and in Xero or QuickBooks.

Variants missing either an SKU or inventory tracking are ignored during sync. They will not appear in your item list, will not consume demand, and will not generate purchase or work orders.

Accounting setup

Xero & QuickBooks:
use non-tracked items.

When Shopify is connected, it becomes the authoritative source of stock on hand. You don't need — and should not rely on — Xero or QuickBooks to track the same inventory quantities of products.

When using both Shopify and an accounts system, Shopify takes priority over any values in the accounts system. The easiest is to leave them as untracked in accounts, and just track key components.

Dream MRP will sync your Shopify locations directly — so your warehouses, fulfilment centres, and pop-up stores all become first-class locations inside your MRP plan.

When you complete a work order, just select to which location the new products are destined.

Connect more than one Shopify store to a single Dream MRP account. Demand from all stores is consolidated into one unified manufacturing plan across all your locations.

Data integrity

Shopify sets availability.
You control the floor.

Shopify counts availability as your customers place orders on your store. Each Dream MRP run gets this data and calculates what you need to do. You decide the level of automation for each individual product.

Minimum stock levels and sales forecasts are stored in Dream MRP — not inside Shopify or your accounts. Set them once via item configuration or CSV upload.
